RBI Governor Urjit Patel Got Beaten Up by Angry Mob in Kolkata

On the day Trinamool Congress declared that nearly hundred people had died due to the central government’s decision on demonetization, Congress workers showered their rage on the Reserve Bank of India governor Urjit Patel.

Urjit Patel had reached the airport at around 6 pm to fly out of the city where he met some angry congress workers. Those congress workers had a black flags with them and they threatened Urjit to swamp him. Mr Patel’s security staff just about managed to get him through that mob to the airport.

Urjit Patel came to Kolkata for a board meeting at the regional branch of RBI. He then visited Mamata Banerjee in the afternoon. Mamata Banerjee herself criticizes the demonetization said that Urjit Patel was silent most of the time. She also said that she got an opportunity to tell Urjit how people are feeling about this. She said RBI is an autonomous body and should not be used for politics.

Mamata Banerjee’s followers had put a list of people who died because of this demonetization which had 97 names. Among the listed names, a state government employee who suffered a heart attack as he stood in the line for cash at an ATM and a retired CRPF soldier Rakesh Yadav who shot himself as he failed to withdraw money from ATM for daily needs.
