The Central Public Information Officer got fined for Rs 25,000 for rejecting an RTI application seeking Prime Minister’s graduation degree.
The Central Information Commission has slapped a fine for the CPIO officer of Delhi University. CPIO officer Meenakshi Sahay of Delhi University was fined by recovering Rs 25000 from the payable salary.
Sahay said that there was no malice in rejecting the RTI application and said that she had to follow the university’s policies in her defense. The commission rejected her explanation and fined her by saying her that the fee was not a material factor to throw out an RTI request.
The commission said it was vexed with non response from the CPIO to a number of its notices and decided to fine her. The commission even described her actions as “pathetic” and her simple mistake led to a huge pile of problems.
The commission recommended that all officials should be provided with latest books on the RTI Act as well as classic text books on administrative law mocking their negligence in their work.
