The India has the worst road safety record in the world. In 2015, there were 5,01,423 accidents on Indian roads and just the two wheelers contribute to a share of 28.8%. This leads to a total of 1,46,133 deaths which calculates nearly to 17 lives being lost every hour of the day every year.
The safety of two wheeler users must be improved. The government has mandated that all the two wheelers being sold from April must have Always Headlamp On feature. This feature allows the people to notice a vehicle quicker and the accident could be avoided before its too late.
Manufacturers have already started rolling out vehicles which have AHO feature. The imported motorcycles already have this as this was a requirement in Europe since 2003. This could drastically increase the safety of the two wheeler riders and considerably reduce the number of accidents. Government of India is now taking steps to reduce the number of road fatalities after all these years.
